“What are we suppose to do~ now that THE LOVE IS GONE–?!”
And you could hear the sound of happy feet dancing pass the corridor of AIESEC UM office, the familiar chatters of laughter among its busy steps: a family event.
FIRST EPISODES for the second term in AIESEC UM was held on the 07th of January 2010. As usual the rites were to kick start with square dancing for an energetic night ahead! As they say, happiness is infectious!
There were also fresh faces of Malaysian AIESECers from Canada and New Zealand who came just to see how AIESEC MALAYSIA does our thing! WooHoo! And more in our guest list for the night were two YV interns from Australia!
The theme for this time round was everyone’s favourite World Café. For the first round, there were two topics served: surrogate and abortion. Surrogate is the idea of a woman carrying a baby for a third party; which means that she is carrying the seed of a life in her womb that in the end of the term will not be her child though it shared nine months of food, blood and lifeline. While abortion is an act of eliminating a life before it even had the chance to live.
Two almost taboo issues especially in an eastern country. Isn’t it almost too tempting to voice out and be different?
Activities such as these serves well as a platform to expand one’s viewpoint and exchange different ideas as well as learning to accept differences; this is what AIESEC is trying to create: a high quality leader that continues to learn and improve.
Not only that, when new topics were introduced in the second round, it also proves that World café EXPAND one’s general knowledge internationally.
How many of you knew that somewhere in this world, prison inmates are offered to shorten their prison sentences by donating one of their organs? Not much I assume. And to give you more food for thought: will you agree if such offer be made in Malaysia?
Hrm.
As the night progress it felt almost impossible that these issues were wrapped up in just an hour and a half! UM LCP, Jolene Sew then moved to give an LC Reality overview. With the gap, fulfillment and success in numbers, you could see a few young faces reeled up for the challenge.
Let’s hope the AIESEC spirit will continue to burn outside the four office walls!
With 73% attendance, the night ended at 10PM sharp and everyone had dispersed into little chats, friendly goodbyes and a content heart.
See you all in the next Episode, AIESECers!
